Brakes and accelerator
Nagoski's dual control model: desire depends as much on removing brakes — stress, resentment, exhaustion, body shame — as on adding stimulation. Most reported 'low desire' is a fully applied brake.
Responsive, not spontaneous
For many women desire arrives after arousal, not before it. Waiting for spontaneous wanting can mean waiting indefinitely for a mechanism you do not run on.
